W grze Szalone wózki dwie do czterech dwuosobowych drużyn wcielają się w role kierowców tytułowych pojazdów i rywalizują o pierwsze miejsce w Wielkim Wyścigu Wózków. Każda drużyna składa się z dwóch kierowców: siedzącego z przodu i siedzącego z tyłu. Każdy kierowca steruje innymi działaniami Wózka, np. przyspieszaniem, hamowaniem, skręcaniem itd. Aby wygrać, kierowcy z jednej drużyny muszą wykonywać skoordynowane działania, ale nie wolno im uzgadniać ze sobą swoich poczynań!

Rozgrywka składa się z dwóch części: z Kwalifikacji i finałowego Wyścigu. Drużyny, które jako pierwsza i druga dotrą do mety w fazie Kwalifikacji, uzyskają bonus na czas Wyścigu. Jednak tylko zwycięzca Wyścigu będzie mógł obnosić się z tytułem Czempiona Turnieju… do następnej rozgrywki, rzecz jasna.
